Tunisia has developed a big experience and a confirmed knowhow and expertise in the field of environmental industries and services (waste water treatment, waste management, energy efficiency and renewable energies, sustainable management of natural resources…).In addition to its privileged geographic position and historical and cultural links between two continents, Africa and Europe, Tunisia has a well developed infrastructure (transportation and telecommunication, new information technologies,...), political and social stability, high quality and competence of human resources, high economic and financial performances and an excellent business climate.

Tunisia is ranked 30 in terms of Global Competitiveness Index for 2006-2007; the first among African and Arab countries (Davos World Economic Forum).

Tunisia assigns about 1.2 % of its GDP to environmental protection expenditures; up to 1700 Million Tunisian Dinars (1100 Million euros) for the next five years. The private business sector is invited to be involved at the environmental investment programs.

PRESENTATION OF FORUM « GREEN IFRIQIYA 2007 »

"GREEN IFRIQUIA 2007" is new international economic and environmental Forum organized by the Tunisian ministry of the environment and sustainable development jointly with the German technical cooperation agency gtz.

"GREEN IFRIQUIA 2007" aims to stimulate new economic opportunities through green investments; developing technological innovation and cooperation for environmental protection; and explore new business opportunities in the African continent based on environmental protection and sustainable development.

"GREEN IFRIQUIA 2007" is targeted at promoting partnerships among European fi rms and African countries/markets in the fi eld of environmental technologies and natural resources preservation.

"GREEN IFRIQUIA 2007" consists of a business Forum, where will take place thematic workshops and seminars ; business-tobusiness space; and an exhibition area, it concerns environmental industries and services, consulting fi rms and experts.

"GREEN IFRIQUIA 2007" will take place from 9 to 11 November 2007 at le Kram ParK des Expositions - Tunis - Tunisia.

PARTICIPATION

"GREEN IFRIQUIA 2007" is an open Forum to economic fi rms, fi nancial institutions, international and regional organizations; and experts operating in the fi eld of environmental protection and sustainable development. Will participate to Green Ifriqiya officials and representatives of natural resources and environmental departments from African countries.

FORUM FACTS

"GREEN IFRIQUIA 2007"consists on four events: :

  1. Exhibtion of Tunisian and foreign specialized companies.

    • Purpose: Exhibition of environmental technologies and processes, by companies and consultancy Firms from Tunisia, Africa and Europe.
    • Location : Hall 3 of the exhibition park in Le Kram, covering 5000m2, is allocated to this event.
    • Opening : The Opening is scheduled for November 9, 2007 at 10 a.m..
    • Opening time: The forum will be open from Friday November 9th to Sunday 11, November 2007, everyday from 10 a.m. to 6p.m..
  2. Busines to Business fair

    • A special area is designed for businessmen, professionals and experts, where they can hold business appointments and partnerships negotiation.
    • A professional team will ensure the organization of appointments to meet the
    availabilities and needs of every participant.
  3. THE SEMINAR : « Investing in the environment field, a support to sustainable
    development in Africa ».involving interventions of prominent persons and international specialized organizations

  4. Thematic and sector oriented workshops

    • Six thematic and sector-oriented workshops will be held, within the premises of the expositions park of Le Kram, the Saturday November 10 and the Sunday 11. Highly renowned Tunisian and foreign officials, executives and professionals will be invited in order to exchange ideas and experiences.

    • Organizer: The National Sanitation utility – ONAS A panel of European and African experts in water and waste water fields will animate this workshop.

    • Organiser : National Agency for Waste Management – ANGed The workshop aims to discussing the sustainable management of solid waste and enhancing waste valorization. Will be requested testimonials of recyclers.

    « Coastle and senstive areas protection »
    • Organizer : Littoral protection and development Agency-APALThe workshop will focuse on the problem of deterioration of the sensitive areas, especially the littoral and on discussion about some studies and experiences of rehabilitation of those areas.

    « Development of environmental competencies and support of industrial and tourist companies »
    • Organizer : International Center of Environmental Technologies of Tunis – CITETThe workshop will consists of a discussion panel with two subthemes
    - Development of environmental competencies at the national and international level.
    - Support to the industrial and tourist companies to insure environmental upgrade.

    « Energetic efficiency and renewable energies»
    • Organizer : National agency for Energy Conservation -ANME This workshop will consist of a panel from Europe, Africa and Tunisia to discuss the opprtunities of energy efficiency and renewable energies in Africa.

    9 a.m - 12 a.m :
    « Instruments for pollution prevention and control »
    • Organizer : National Agency of Environment Protection- ANPE The workshop will be an opportunity to present recent instruments of pollution control and prevention.
    - Pollution control
    - The study of impact.
    - Fiscal and financial encouragements (FODEP)

    SIDE EVENTS

  5. Network of Maghreb Companies for the Environment (REME) with the support of the gtz..

    • The REME project, supported by gtz encourages the effective contribution and active participation of all the concerned parties, with interest in the process of environmental upgrade, by offering a regional platform aiming at facilitating the information and experiences exchange between the member countries of Maghreb, and the European space.
    • A large number of participants to this network will be from Maghreb countries.
    A stand will host the main actors and partners of the active network of the Maghreb countries (Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia) involving professionals and experts from Europe and Maghreb
    • The meeting of orientation board of Network of Maghreb companies for environment will be held on the occasion of GREEN IFRIQIYA 2007

  6. BIOWASTE 2007 : is a business meeting organised by the CITET and the gtz.It aims to develop opportunities related to agro-industries waste valorization.

    Tunis Biowaste 2007 aims at helping the European countries to look for Tunisian and African partners in the fi eld of compost and biogas production from agro-industrial waste.

    Tunis Biowaste 2007 will enable connecting together professionals and businessmen in the fi eld of compost and biogas production from agro-industries.

    Tunis Biowaste 2007 will consist of :
    Exposés about investments opportunities in the fi eld of compost and biogas production from agro-industries in Tunisia within the institutional frameworks in the public and private sectors (legal framework, regulations, national previous experiences, deposit, current conditions of stocking and processing, perspectives).
    Technical and commercial presentations of some Eu ropean companies.
    Business meetings involving Europeans and Tunisians/Africans partners.
